This will be our first Christmas as parents, and I'm already so excited for the Holiday season to start. Is it too early to start decorating in mid November? I know Liam won't remember this Christmas, or even know what he is opening. Heck, he probably will like the boxes and tissue paper more than the gifts. So this year I made my list based off of what I think he will enjoy playing with now, and in a few months or even a year down the road. Some things we have and love, and some we have used at friends houses and love. I've categorized the items based off of themes I'm drawn to, personalized items, wooden toys, and of course all things active! Who doesn't want an inflatable pool with plastic balls in their kids room?? (Plastic balls linked here). Happy shopping! As we approach winter, a few Mom's and I have been discussing what to put our little's in for the cold Canadian weather. There are so many amazing Canadian brands out there that I decided to put together a list of the ones I have come across. I will continue to add to this list as we continue to learn about new brands, so keep an eye out! Kid's Stuff [Trucs d'enfants]Based out of Montreal, this brand offers gender neutral clothing made with environmentally friendly fabrics. Liam is wearing their Grow with me Overall and it is so soft and comfy, and the straps have buttons to allow for them to grow into them. We also have their Beanie in Mauve Fig. Jax and LennonThis company is based out of Calgary, and all of their clothing is luxury bamboo which makes them feel like butter. All of their pieces are stylish, and comfortable which makes baby and mommy happy. a baby bowtiqueOne of our friends created this beautiful bow company after the arrival of their daughter, Joey. She was having a hard time finding neutral colours and fabrics for those cute accessories, so herself and her mom started creating their own, and a Baby Bowtique was born. After losing her first daughter at full term, she wanted to celebrate her each year by doing an act of kindness. Part of their proceeds and ends of material go towards creating micro mini headbands for their local Maternity & NICU wards. Josiah+coWe just met the creator of Josiah+co, and knew we needed to add them to our list of favourite Canadian brands. Her story is so touching, and love that her booties are created with Heaven babies in mind. "Josiah+co. started out of a desire to share our story of multiple pregnancy loss, and to encourage others to not grieve alone. We want to open up the pregnancy, infant, and child loss conversation through each piece that we create. " RoweCreated by a Calgary mom who was fed up with snaps, Rowe rompers were born. These rompers are easy to get on and off with a quick zipper at the ankles, and they are made to last from child to child. Most of our baby friends have them because once one mom sees it, they instantly want one for themselves. My MilaAt the start I found it difficult to find cute clothes for boys. I obviously wasn't looking in the right places because My Mila has the cutest boy outfits, I want them all! Their sweatshirt and sweat pant combo are one of our favourite outfits! Mini MiocheBased out of Toronto, this adorable brand allows you to dress up your child in gender neutral colours that are soft and basic. I bought a few things from them for Liam when he was a newborn, and he fit them all the way until 7 months old! They are a classic to every kids wardrobe. Province of CanadaNow who doesn't want a Mom, Dad & Kid sweater? Enough said. The crewnecks are cozy and heavyweight, so it will help keep you and your little nice and warm. Wooly Doodle Apparel IncWe just purchased our first Wooly Doodle shirt at the Modern Mom Show, and I'm already planning my next purchase. The fabric is so soft, and the cut of the long sleeve is so cute. They offer a bunch of gender neutral colours. These shirts are a must have for every babies wardrobe. The good kidOnce you see this sweater, you're going to have that slogan caught in your head for hours! With vintage styled clothing, they sell kids and ladies tee's and sweaters. plum KidsNot only does this company make handmade products, based out of St. Albert, Alberta, focusing on the simple minimalist style, they also give back 10% of every TINY HUMAN item to a charity that aids financial and medical needs for children. There have been a lot of questions of items that I have for Liam, and so I thought I would put a list together of the items that we can't live without! One thing I did before having him, was go through all the bloggers that I follow and create a list of items they tested and believed were necessary. This is a combined list of all of those recommendations, and new items we have found useful ourselves. Hopefully this list helps you as you and your babe grow during their first year! Everything listed we own, we use, and we recommend. There's only so much walking around the house looking in the mirrors one can do in a day. Luckily, when I became a mom someone introduced me to "MomsHamilton", a group of women that get together around the neighbourhood and meet at different venues to chat, drink beer (or kombucha), and talk about how no one is sleeping! After attending a few of these events, I decided to create a list of places in the area that offer services to Mom's and their babes! Here are a few places I have been to, or have been recommended to try in the future! - Common Moms Family Room: babies under one are free, and adults & kids are $6. They had a couch for the mom's to sit and chat, while the babies roamed on their foam mats, or ball put. They even served free coffee! - Mother Goose: they're offered in many different cities, but I have found it to be a great hour out of the house where you sing and interact with other moms/kids, and the program is free! - Grain & Grit: This local brewery is fantastic for putting together events, and they even have one dedicated to Babies & Brews. Every Tuesday at 2:00 pm you can join many other mom's with a beer or kombucha, and relax in their super cute brewery. - Little Rebels: This music class is offered in group sessions, and our little mom group has LOVED it! The mom's sing, the babies play the maracas, and everyone enjoys an hour of music and development! - Baby Float Spa: They offer baby float therapy and baby massages! I haven't been yet, but a friend visited and had great things to say! Her little one slept for 3 hours after, which I have to assume is because she was so zen'd out from the spa day she had! - Alchemy Crossfit, De La Sol Yoga, Morgan Kate Fitness & Fit Barre Hamilton: Both locations offer mom & me classes, so you're able to go and workout for an hour while the coaches help care for your babe. It's a nice hour to sweat, and not have to be on "mom duty" the entire time! - Messy Play Studio: This amazing spot provides sensory and creative play experiences for your little one through different events they offer throughout the year. Check their website for whats coming up next! - Blossom Musik: They have a drop in class every other Friday - Chickadee Family Cafe: This coffee shop has a play area for kids ages 0-6 and a full service cafe to keep moms caffeinated! There are also Mommy and me programs, free Mom & baby chats with local practitioners every Wednesday afternoon. - Playville Hamilton: - The Pearl Humminbird: - Nanyem.ca - Gymalaya Burlington: Lots of fun for any ages! There is a nice lounge area for post play snacks too! - Muchies Coffee House and Bakery: This spot is baby AND pet friendly, so you can join with your dog! If you love animals and need a spot to go with your babe, this place is for you! - the World of my Baby: A clinic with different services and workshops; Massage Therapy, Osteopathy, Naturopathy, Counselling, Physiotherapy, and Chiropractic care - |
